Rising costs, reduced revenue and a shortage of skilled workers are challenging small- and medium-size manufacturers in the Houston-Gulf Coast region and beyond. But help is on the way. Texas is facing a nursing shortage that could leave the state with 57,000 fewer nurses than needed in less than a decade. To address this shortage, Houston Community College and Dwyer Workforce Development are teaming up to leverage partners across the region to train new healthcare workers who will impact the industry long-term.

Based on outstanding accomplishments and dedication to student success, Houston Community College has been selected to participate in a Talent Strong Texas Pathways five-year statewide economic mobility grant. The $16 million grant – administered by the Texas Success Center – helps selected colleges increase the number of credentialed Texans preparing for high-demand careers with a living wage.
Yesterday, the Houston Community College Board of Trustees declined to extend my contract beyond August 31, 2023. We will therefore all be working to support the Board, the College, and most importantly the students in the upcoming transition to a new chancellor.
