Online Proctoring

Faculty teaching online courses have the option to use online proctoring software to ensure the integrity of the assessment process and to prevent acts of academic dishonesty.  The faculty member will communicate their proctoring requirements, examination schedule, and other pertinent information via the course syllabus.  HCC Online provides faculty members with online proctoring options that are free-of-charge to online students.  Faculty have access to two software platforms, Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.  Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom Web browser that prevents the user from accessing other applications and files during the testing process.  Respondus Monitor is an automated product that captures the examination process via the student’s webcam and allows the faculty member to review a video record of the examination process.  To learn more about Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor, visit the Respondus website at www.respondus.com.

Face-to-Face Proctoring

Some faculty members teaching online courses require face-to-face proctored examinations to ensure the integrity of the assessment process and to prevent acts of academic dishonesty.  The faculty member will communicate their proctoring requirements, examination schedule, and other pertinent information via the course syllabus or via an announcement or other mechanism within Eagle Online (Canvas).  HCC Online provides face-to-face proctoring support for online students and faculty members via the HCC Online Testing Center located in the basement of the 3100 Main St. building and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at the following HCC locations:

Out-of-Area Proctoring

HCC faculty members teaching online courses may require either online or face-to-face proctored examinations to ensure the integrity of the assessment process and to prevent acts of academic dishonesty.  The faculty member will communicate their proctoring requirements, examination schedule, and other pertinent information via the course syllabus or via an announcement or other mechanism within Eagle Online (Canvas).

If you will be outside the Houston area during a scheduled, proctored examination, you must notify the faculty member teaching your course and HCC Online support staff (713-718-5275 or hcc.online@hccs.edu) a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the first-scheduled, proctored examination.  It is your responsibility to schedule an appointment at an approved proctoring location (community college, university, or commercial testing center) within the previously designated testing period.  Once your appointment has been scheduled, please complete the Proctoring Verification form.
