General Graduation Information

HCC will hold two Commencement Ceremonies for the 2019-2020 school year. 

  • The fall ceremony will be held December 6 at the UH Fertitta Center located at 3422 Cullen Blvd.
  • The spring ceremony will be held in May at the NRG stadium.

 

Associate Degree candidates who meet the criteria below are eligible for Honor Cords for the ceremony. Students completing a Certificate of Completion do not receive honor cords.

  • GPA used for the Fall ceremony is through Summer 2019 (fall grades will not be included for the ceremony but will be reflected on the final award)
  • GPA for the Spring ceremony is through Fall 2019 (spring grades will not be included for the ceremony but will be reflected on the final award)Honors 3.35 – 3.59
  • High Honors 3.60 – 3.79,
  • Highest Honors 3.80 – 4.00.

 

Honor cords may be picked up at all HCC bookstores prior to graduation.

Commencement Steps

Step 1: Meet with an Advisor

Schedule an appointment with the advisor listed in your student center, or stop by any campus to visit with an advisor on a first-come-first-served basis.

Step 2: Apply for graduation

Fall Ceremony- Nov 8

Spring Ceremony – April 15

Apply for graduation directly through your student center

Indicate whether you want a printed diploma and provide a diploma mailing address.
You will receive a confirmation email with the ceremony registration link after:

Fall – October

Spring - February


Step 3: Register for Commencement

 Step 4: Purchase Regalia

The online ordering site is now open and includes all the information you need for ordering your cap and gown as well as your graduation announcements.
All orders placed at this site will ship directly to your home.

Visit any HCC Bookstore to purchase your regalia. 

All HCC Bookstores should have graduation regalia in stock by October 21 if you would prefer to shop in-store. Regalia cost $52.98 plus tax, and financial aid dollars can be used to purchase regalia.


Step 5: Attend Ceremony

CLEAR BAG POLICY

The Fertitta Center enforces a clear bag policy to ensure safety for all guests. Items such as backpacks, purses and diaper bags are not permitted for students or families and guests are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags to the facility.

The following items will be allowed inside the Fertitta Center events:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x inches
  • 1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
  • A small clutch purse no larger than 4.4 inches by 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap (These small clutches remain subject to search)
  • Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the doors by arena personnel
     

 

Dress/Attire and Information for the ceremony

 

Please follow these dress code guidelines for the graduation ceremony:

 

  • The academic cap should be worn straight and pulled down slightly on the forehead.
  • The tassel of the cap should be worn on the right first, and then changed to the left at the end of the ceremony
  • Suggested clothing to be worn under the gown:
    • Men - White shirt, dark tie, dark slacks, dark shoes, and dark socks. No sandals
    • Women - Lightweight fabric and dark shoes with low or medium heels. No sandals
  • Graduates should carry nothing in their hands. A copy of the program will be placed on each graduate's chair.
  • For the safety and security of those attending the commencement, no bags will be permitted in the back staging area with students. This includes, but not limited to purses, backpacks, camera bags, and diaper bags.
  • Absolutely no smoking is allowed.
  • Balloons not allowed

 

  • All students attending commencement, including late registrants must purchase regalia by doing any of the following, visit any HCC Bookstore or purchase the morning of the ceremony.
  • On graduation day, participating graduates need to arrive by 11:00 a.m. for the 1:00 p.m. ceremony. Parking will be available for $5.00.  Upon arrival, proceed to student check-in at the UH-Alumni Center located next to the Fertitta Center.  You will receive a preprinted registration card, please verify all information is correct.  Staff will assist you with seating arrangements in the staging area and answer any questions you may have. 
  • As you prepare to line up to cross the stage, please be prompt in reaching the center of the stage, then proceed to exit off the stage.  There will be staff to guide you during this process.  Please be attentive and follow their instructions.  It is important that you return to your seat after receiving your recognition and remain seated until the end of the ceremony.

 

 

Faculty Registration

Order regalia (online through November 9), https://facultydirect.herffjones.com/.

A late fee will be applied. The site is set up to accept the faculty and the order will ship directly to the faculty, either at their home address or whatever shipping address they provide.

The order will come with a return label so the faculty can place their regalia back in the box and ship it to the vendor. Regalia may also be returned to the main campus HCC Bookstore. All rental items must be returned no later than the week following the ceremony.

The bookstore will not be collecting regalia at the graduation ceremony for shipment back to the vendor, but will be on hand to exchange any regalia that does not fit or work. The bookstore will also be on hand to assist with any robe related questions or questions about the return process.

Faculty Registration 2019 Commencement Ceremony - Register

  1. Click on the registration link
  2. On the MarchingOrder website, click “log in”
  3. Go to “Returning Users and
  4. Email - Enter the preferred email address on file with Houston Community College in the "email" field. (Example: username@hccs.edu)
  5. Password - Enter your Houston Community College assigned employee ID number with a E in front in the "password" field. (Example: E123456789)
