Objective

Career Help And Mentoring Program (CHAMP)
This track is intended to provide opportunities for new-to-HCC students to develop a sustained relationship with faculty and staff mentors with experience in the student’s field of study. Mentors will provide academic, workforce, and social and emotional support that will increase students’ sense of integration in to HCC, students’ understanding of HCC procedures and processes, and subject-specific academic and career knowledge, thereby encouraging student success and completion.

Programs Available

Psychology

By matching up with a Psychology mentor through HCC’s Career Help and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), a student receives the benefit of one-on-one guidance from one of our diverse and talented HCC Psychology faculty, all of whom possess valuable and distinctive backgrounds and perspectives. Through this mentoring program, a student can learn more about Psychology classes, the Associate of Science Degree in Psychology, related clubs, Psychology honor society, and campus activities offered at HCC, as well as about relevant programs at four-year universities, and career opportunities. As a broad field of study, a Psychology student can benefit by having a faculty mentor who is matched with them based on their specific discipline and career interests. At the core of Psychology is the concept of engagement and a mentor can help you engage in a variety of ways with what interests you the most.

 

Anthropology

By matching up with an Anthropology mentor through HCC’s Career Help and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), a student receives the benefit of one-on-one guidance from one of our diverse and talented HCC Anthropology faculty, all of whom possess distinctive and valuable perspectives and experiences. Through this mentoring program, a student can learn more about Anthropology classes as well as related club and campus activities offered at HCC, about relevant programs at four-year universities, and about career opportunities in Anthropology. Given the diversity of Anthropology as a field, a student can benefit by having a faculty mentor who is matched with them based on their specific discipline and career interests. Anthropology and mentoring share a common thread - having people at the heart of the equation.

 

Geography

By matching up with a Geography mentor through HCC’s Career Help and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), a student receives the benefit of one-on-one guidance from one of our diverse and talented HCC Geography faculty, all of whom possess valuable and distinctive backgrounds and perspectives. Through this mentoring program, a student can learn more about Geography classes as well as related club and campus activities offered at HCC, about relevant programs at four-year universities, and about career opportunities in Geography. Given the diversity of Geography as a field, a student can benefit by having a faculty mentor who is matched with them based on their specific discipline and career interests. At the core of Geography is the concept of place and a mentor can help take you places.

 

Sociology

By matching up with a Sociology mentor through HCC’s Career Help and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), a student receives the benefit of one-on-one guidance from one of our diverse and talented HCC Government faculty, all of whom possess valuable and distinctive backgrounds and perspectives. Through this mentoring program, a student can learn more about Sociology classes, the Sociology major, related club and campus activities offered across all HCC campuses, as well as about relevant programs at four-year universities, and career opportunities. As a broad field of study, a Sociology student can benefit by having a faculty mentor who is matched with them based on their specific discipline and career interests. Sociology mentors are committed to making a particular effort to find students with the interest and the potential to become professional sociologists.

 

Government

By matching up with a Government mentor through HCC’s Career Help and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), a student receives the benefit of one-on-one guidance from one of our diverse and talented HCC Government faculty, all of whom possess valuable and distinctive backgrounds and perspectives. Economics

Economics is everywhere and understanding how the economy works and how people in it behave is invaluable.  Our diverse and dedicated HCC Economics faculty is looking forward answering questions students may have about Economics classes at HCC, pursuing a degree in Economics or business at a 4 year college, careers in Economics as well as sharing perspectives and advice.  By matching up with a Economics mentor based on specific discipline and interests, students can relate to, learn from and be inspired by our Economics faculty’s diverse and unique experiences and life stories.  Through the HCC CHAMP Mentoring Program, the Economics faculty  aims to inspire and guide students through their HCC journey and promote greater understanding of the fascinating world and US Economy.
