Update on HCC’s Plans for the Rest of the Spring 2021 Semester

Mar 1, 2021

Prior to the start of the Spring 2021 semester, HCC announced changes to course delivery for our Flex Campus and select Lab-Based courses. Changes were effective from the start of the semester through Spring Break. The following decisions have been made for how these classes will be delivered for the remainder of the Spring semester. Please review them carefully and work closely with your instructors to ensure you continue to complete all course requirements so you can finish the Spring semester strong.

Flex Campus Courses

  • All Flex Campus courses will continue to be delivered remotely (online) for the rest of the Spring semester. This will help to limit mid-semester disruptions to course delivery for these classes, while also limiting our on-campus activity for the Spring semester.
  • This means there will be no on-campus, in-person component to Flex Campus courses for the Spring. These courses will only meet online on their scheduled days and times.

Lab-Based Courses

  • Lab-Based courses that started the semester on campus will continue to meet on campus for the rest of the semester. For a list of these labs, please refer to our January 14 update. This means if you are in a lab that has been meeting on campus, you will see no changes to the delivery of that course.
  • Select Lab-Based courses that started the semester online will meet according to the following plans.
    • All Academic Labs will continue to meet online for the rest of the semester. This includes labs in Liberal Arts, Humanities, Education, English as a Second Language (ESOL), Life & Natural Sciences
    • Select labs in the Visual & Performing Arts Center of Excellence will return to campus after Spring Break, but several will remain online. Students in applied classes in Dance, Drama, Music and Studio Art should reach out to their course instructor to confirm plans for their labs for the rest of the Spring semester
    • All labs in the Global Energy Center of Excellence will return to campus after Spring Break. Students in these labs should confirm plans with their course instructor to ensure they are ready to return to campus when Spring Break ends.

Online on a Schedule & Online Anytime Courses

  • These courses will continue to be delivered online as planned with no changes.
    • This means students enrolled in Online on a Schedule courses are expected to login to class using Eagle Online at the scheduled dates and times they enrolled in.
    • Students enrolled in Online Anytime courses will also access class using Eagle Online.

Student Support Services

We will continue to provide virtual and on-campus access to student and instructional support services throughout the Spring Semester. Access to in-person services is available via appointment or walk-in at select locations at each of the six different HCC Colleges. For details about what services will be available and where, as well as how to schedule in-person or virtual appointments, please visit the Virtual Lobby page on our website.

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may present, but we remain committed to helping you achieve your educational goals and supporting you as you finish the semester strong. As a reminder, the Summer 2021 schedule will be released in early March and the Fall 2021 schedule at the end of March/early April. Classes for both semesters will include online and face-to-face offerings.
