Texas A&M University and Houston Community College Engineering Academy has largest cohort in state

The success of the Texas A&M University-Chevron Engineering Academy at Houston Community College has resulted in the largest academy in Texas with a total of 113 students in its Fall 2023 cohort. This cohort is also the largest since the academy was founded in 2015.

Academy students are co-enrolled at HCC and the Texas A&M University College of Engineering where they are Aggies from the first day and have full access to all services and benefits at TAMU. One of the advantages of the academy is early entry to an engineering major with an economical pathway to a TAMU engineering degree. Engineering courses are taught by TAMU faculty at the HCC Spring Branch campus with a cohort of their peers. Math and science classes are also taught as cohort classes by HCC faculty.

In addition, the high-quality courses offered by HCC have smaller faculty-student ratios, allowing for more personal learning and student success. TAMU Academy students have multiple opportunities during the semester to visit the Texas A&M campus in College Station during campus engagements.

The Texas Workforce Commission projects a 25 percent growth in engineering jobs but a shortage of engineers to fill those positions. Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy is a response to this growth and demand for Aggie engineers.
