HCC’s Solar Photovoltaic Installer Certificate receives national certification

The Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installer Certificate at Houston Community College Central has been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Providers (NABCEP), the most respected, well-established and widely recognized certification organization for professionals in the field of renewable energy.
The certification ensures the public that HCC’s Solar PV installer education meets or surpasses the highest level of rigorous standards to address the real-world needs of customers, businesses, utility companies and governmental organizations.
“This board certification is a powerful endorsement of our solar certificate and our professionalism,” says Kris Asper, dean of HCC’s Architectural Design and Construction Center of Excellence. “We are excited that our certificate has been thoroughly reviewed and now has this important distinction. It means we are teaching the best to our solar PV students.”
HCC offers a Level I certificate i through the college’s Electrical Technology program, which is part of college’s Architectural Design and Construction Center of Excellence. The certificate, comprised of six classes and 18 college credit hours, offers students the chance to learn essential elements of commercial and residential electricity, especially related to solar panel PV installation. After successfully completing the certificate, students will be eligible to test for the valuable NABCEP PV Associate credential.
“Our students are so well equipped once they complete our training,” says Walter “Matt” Adams, an electrical instructor at HCC Central. “And the great news is that they will not struggle to find good jobs. The industry is hungry for skilled electricians, and the solar energy sector is growing phenomenally. Our new NABCEP certification means becoming an HCC electrical technology graduate is even more valuable to our students and future employers.”
