Houston Community College (HCC) is set to host the 2024 Houston Poetry and Arts Festival on April 27 at the college’s West Houston Institute.

The event will display the diverse literary and artistic talent of the city, celebrating creativity and community, with approximately 30 exhibitors from HCC and the wider Houston literary and arts community.

One of the festival's key attractions includes a lineup of featured artists and performers. From acclaimed poets to visual artists, these individuals will showcase their work throughout the event. Attendees can look forward to experiencing a diverse range of artistic expressions, including spoken word performances, visual art displays and more.

"We are thrilled to host the festival to showcase and share the incredible talent and creativity that thrives in our area," said Courtney O’Banion Smith, English professor and HCC Creative Writing Club advisor. "With performances from Poet Laureate, Smoke Slam, the nationally renowned poetry team, and award-winning poets Joshua Burton, Chankrisna Tea, and J. Bruce Fuller, there’s no better way to close out National Poetry Month.”

This event is not just about art and poetry; it is also about supporting innovation and excellence in education. The festival is part of the Innovation Fellows Program and supported by the Ewen Family Endowed Chair for Teaching and Learning Excellence Awards. These initiatives aim to empower faculty and student services staff to enhance the HCC experience and enrich the experience fellows have while serving the college.
