HCC Central hosts GROW Fest Career and Resource Fair

Apr 14, 2023

HCC Central will host a free career fair and exposition focused on green jobs, career training and community resources from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on April 21.

GROW Fest will feature more than 500 job openings – with salaries of $15 an hour or more – from dozens of employers, including the City of Houston, Clearway Energy, Pattern Energy, WM, Orstead, Amazon, Boeing, Burns & McDonnell and CenterPoint Energy. The event celebrates Earth Day, traditionally held on April 22.

The event will feature a block party-like atmosphere with music, food and green job activities and demonstrations of electric cars and products. Registered guests will have a chance to win a laptop or $500 gift card. To register, click here.

Green jobs and positions are available for all skill levels for those at least 16 years old. Participants can connect with hiring managers and company representatives, as well as get information about job readiness training and continuing education for green careers. Individuals with criminal histories are welcome to attend.

The event is a product of GROW (Green Resources and Opportunities Workforce), a collaboration among public, private and nonprofit organizations whose goal is to ensure equitable resources and opportunities to disadvantaged communities in the energy transition. It grew out of the community-based planning process of the Complete Communities Action Plans, Resilient Houston and the Houston Climate Action Plan.

“Ensuring that all Houstonians have equal access to quality services and amenities requires across-sector approach,” said City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. “By tapping the strengths of our community members, nonprofits, businesses and philanthropic partners, together, we can build a stronger and more resilient city.”

GROW Fest participants can learn about sustainability, green careers and entrepreneurship. Information on how to funnel economic-recovery dollars to investments and policies leading to bold and transformative climate action and the creation of decent, accessible, living-wage jobs will also be shared.
