The Politics of Sports kicks off five-part, landmark series of free panel discussions at HCC

Former Houston Oilers defensive backs Bubba McDowell and Audray McMillian are among the professional athletes, sports executives, journalists and business owners who will serve as panelists for “The Politics of Sports,” the first of a five-part series of high-powered discussions commemorating Black History Month at HCC.

 

“The Politics of Sports” takes place at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018, in Room 100 of HCC Central's Learning Hub Science Building, 1300 Holman St., Houston, TX 77004. The event is free and open to all. 

 

Discussion topics for “The Politics of Sports” include: The business of sports, minority ownership of sports franchises, Colin Kaepernick, current concerns in high school, college and professional sports, players’ roles and responsibilities, and opportunities for professional coaching and front-office positions for people of color. 

 

Ralph Cooper, veteran sports broadcaster for KCOH 1230 AM, is the panel moderator.

The HCC Black History Committee is offering “The Politics of” panel discussions, a first-of-a-kind series at HCC, throughout February to explore and create constructive dialogue on some of the most critical and relevant issues facing our city and nation.
