The Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society is devoted to the advancement of adult students in higher education. Recently, it honored Dr. Terry Kidd, Dean of the Division of Extended Learning at Houston Community College, with the William C. Hine Distinguished Service Award.

The award honors chapter councilors for their commitment to promoting lifelong learning, dedication to serving adult learners, and leadership to the society.

“This award has truly been a blessing,” Kidd said. “It helps me keep focused, while energizing me to continuing working, leading, and being innovating, so that I can continue to impact lives of people.”

The focal point of his work is the profound understanding of those roadblocks that impede adult learners from attending college, such as holding a full-time job, raising a family and other life responsibilities.

Kidd said, “Through my work, I try to advance the cause of humanity by cultivating technical skills that provide a glimmer of hope to marginalized communities.”

Members of Alpha Sigma Lambda expressed their support in recognizing Kidd, who will soon join the organization’s board of directors.

“Terry’s ideas have created opportunities for improving the quality of programs, services and visibility of adult learners,” said Maria Altobellow, an Alpha Sigma Lambda member at large.

In 2016, Kidd became part of Houston Business Journal’s prestigious list “40 under 40” and also received the Distinguished Alumni Award for Early Career from Texas A&M University.
