Former student credits HCC Online for award-winning CPA test results

Kevin Miller worked at an accounting firm and wanted to become a Certified Public Accountant. But Miller had never taken a formal accounting course, had no time for traditional classes, and had very little chance of passing the CPA exam. Then he turned to Houston Community College and HCC changed his life.

“I took all the classes I needed online,” Miller says.  “The HCC classes were rigorous, the professors were involved and I continued working full time.”

After completing his online courses, Miller took the CPA exam in 2017 and did something only a handful of other test-takers managed to accomplish. “There are four sections to the exam and I averaged more than a 96 across-the-board,” Miller says. “I was one of only 50 people to do that in 2017 and received the Elijah Watt Sells Award for an outstanding score on the CPA exam. I don’t think I would have been able to get such a great score without being well-prepared by the classes I took at HCC.”

Miller, who started a new job this summer as a CPA, figures he saved thousands of dollars by choosing HCC Online instead of a four-year university. He wouldn’t hesitate to recommend HCC to anyone needing to take classes for their job or any other reason.

“HCC is more affordable and classes are easier to take with a full time job,” Miller says. “Plus, HCC prepares you just as well as any big name university would.”
