The HCC Board of Trustees approved the name change on June 18, 2025, during a regular public meeting.
When will the new name take effect?
The official launch of the Houston City College name will occur during Fall Convocation on September 5, 2025. After voting its intent to change the name at its June 18, board meeting, the Board of Trustees will officially change the name with a resolution at its August 20, 2025, meeting. Until that date, the institution will continue using the name Houston Community College in all formal communications.
