Spring 2022 COVID-19 Instruction Change

On January 2, HCC announced that the Omicron variant surge led the institution to make a shift in operations, support services and instruction for the month of January. This webpage is a resource to help you better understand how the decision may impact your courses from January 18 – January 29.

Changes to Instruction from January 18 – January 29

  • In-person Courses: Some in-person courses may temporarily change to Online on a Schedule format from January 18 – 29.
  • Hybrid and Hybrid Lab Courses: Some in-person courses may temporarily change to Online on a Schedule format from January 18 – 29.
  • Online On A Schedule Courses: There will be no change to course instruction from January 18 – 29.
  • Online Anytime Courses: There will be no change to course instruction from January 18 – 29.


To find out if your in-person or hybrid course will meet on-campus or online at the scheduled time from January 18 - 29, please follow the steps below.


STEP 1: View Your Course Numbers


  • Click here to sign into the Student Center.
  • Select “Manage Class” tile to view your course schedule.
  • Find the class number for all your in-person and hybrid classes. The class number will be a five-digit number with the course format following the dash (example: Class Nbr 12345 – In-person).


**Please note that the course schedule in your Student Center will not reflect any changes to instruction for the first 2 weeks. You must go to step two to verify how your course will work from January 18 – 29.
 


STEP 2: Search List to View Format of Your Courses from January 18 - 29


We created a searchable list below for you to determine how your courses will work from January 18 – 29. Please follow the instructions below the search bar. 

  • Enter the five-digit class number (example: Class Nbr 12345 – In-person) into the search box above.
    • Note: Please only enter one class number at a time.

  • Click the “Search” button above to view how your course will be delivered from January 18 - 29.
    • Note: If you see more than one course listed after your search, please pay attention to the “subject” column to view the information for the correct course.
    • Note: After viewing one course, please select the “Search Again” option to check additional courses.


STEP 3: What to Do Your First Day


After using the search tool, please view the “How Your Course Will Work in January” section below. This will let you know where to go or log in the first day of class.

If you see your course will be delivered "On Campus" after searching for your course number above, you will receive instruction in-person at the location listed on your course schedule. 


Safety Protocol On Campus


When you come on campus, you will find that Houston Community College provides sanitation stations and masks. While masks are not currently mandated, nor are students, faculty and staff required to get the COVID-19 vaccine, the College continues to recommend that the HCC family takes every available precaution to keep themselves and those around them safe. Everyone is asked to take the  HCC Soar Safe Pledge – five actions we can all take to protect ourselves and our community. 

  1. Wear a mask
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Watch your distance
  4. Stay home if you are sick
  5. Get vaccinated

What to Do Your First Day


If you see your course will be delivered "Hybrid" or "Hybrid Lab" after searching for your course number above, you will receive instruction in-person at the location listed on your course schedule.

Online On A Schedule


What to Do Your First Day


If you see your course will be delivered "Online on a Schedule" after searching for your course number above, you will receive instruction online at the location listed on your course schedule. 

Online On A Schedule means that on the first day of class you will log in to Eagle Online (Canvas) at the scheduled time instead of coming to campus. Course information will be posted to Eagle Online on the first day of class. 


How to Login To Eagle Online (Canvas)


HCC uses the Canvas learning management system (LMS), which we call Eagle Online. Through Eagle Online you log in to communicate with instructors and actively participate in courses. Course information will be posted to Eagle Online (Canvas) on the first day of class.

  • Use the following link to log in on the first day of class: eagleonline.hccs.edu.

  • Your Eagle Online Canvas Username is your HCC Email (issued upon enrollment) and the password is the same as your HCC Email password.

  • For video tutorials and guides to: log in to email, log in into Canvas; view lectures online; and get technical support, please click here to view the Student Toolkit


Important Note About Attendance


For courses taught online, attendance means logging into your courses using Eagle Online on a regular basis and following any established schedule your instructor puts in place for your course. Students who do not log in and actively participate before the Official Day of Record may be automatically withdrawn for non-attendance.

Online Anytime


What to Do Your First Day


If you see your course will be delivered "Online Anytime" after searching for your course number above, you will receive assignments and communicate with instructors online through Eagle Online (Canvas). Online Anytime courses do not have scheduled lectures, so you have the flexibility to complete coursework at the times that work best for you.
Information for Online Anytime courses will be posted to Eagle Online (Canvas) on the first day of class.
