Patrick Nguyen has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) since 2018 and has worked as a Counselor at HCC since 2009. He has been in higher education student services since 2000 in counseling, academic advising, recruitment, student life, student retention, & college technology. He has counseled clients with grief, depression, anxiety, issues involving LGBTQ or identity, career, and social/cultural adjustments.
As of now, you have started the path to feeling better. Allow Mr. Nguyen to listen and help you get to where you want to be. We can only wish that it was as simple and helpful as conversing with the people around us. Mr. Nguyen’s goal is to give you a space for such a conversation. You talk; he’ll listen. In our sessions, we will form a supportive relationship using person-centered and cognitive-behavioral techniques that will be used as a basis for other relationships in your world. Mr. Nguyen focuses on how you feel, where those feelings come from, and how to set concrete steps for you to progress and succeed. Mr. Nguyen works with clients in high school, college, mid-life, and those nearing retirement.

Tamara Petty is a National Board-Certified Counselor who resides in Houston, Texas by way of the Midwest. Ms. Petty is a License Profession Counselor in the state of Texas. Ms. Petty has a B.A. degree in Psychology from Grambling State University. She also has two Master's degrees from Prairie View A&M one in Counseling and the other in Human Science.
Ms. Petty enjoys working with people and has been awarded the “Award of Champions” for managing a crisis counseling team during Hurricane Ike in 2009. Ms. Petty is currently a member of the Harris Co. Volunteer Organization National Disaster (VOAD).
Ms. Petty started working part-time at HCC as an advisor and as a Director of Admission/Counselor at the VAST Academy. Tamara has been working with HCC College for five years full-time as an ADA Counselor at the Northeast College and a General Counselor at the Northwest College. While working at HCC, Ms. Petty has been involved with the Diversity and Inclusion program and Ms. Petty is currently a member of the Houston Community College (CLP) program.

Ms. Lisa Parkinson has been an HCC counselor since 2008. She started in Distance Education and later interned at Central College’s Ability Services office for a year. She has been the Spring Branch ADA Counselor since September 2012. Lisa received her Master’s Degree in Education in Counseling in 2008 from the University of Houston and became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 2012. Lisa is able to provide services to HCC students from application to graduation.

Dr. Ashford earned a Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education and a Master’s of Education in Guidance in Counseling from Texas Southern University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts of Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Ashford has served as professional staff in student development for over 13 years and currently, she is an ADA Counselor at the HCC NW- Katy location. Her student development experience includes working with students in multiple areas of advising and counseling, international services, and grants programs. Other counseling services experience for Dr. Ashford includes community mental health, residential treatment facilities, domestic violence, and juvenile offender counseling services.
Dr. Ashford uses a reality therapy approach with a somewhat cognitive behavior therapy slant. Her clinical interests include: career issues, sports counseling, juvenile offenders, and multi-cultural issues. Dr. Ashford discloses her research interest as being: first-generation students, at-risk adolescents, ethical and legal aspects in the workplace, and factors that lead to the selection of college majors.

Dr. E. J. Sit brings to Houston Community College many years of higher education experience in administration and professional areas including Student Services, Workforce Development, Instruction, and Institutional Effectiveness. She’s worked in both multi- and single-district community colleges, public and private universities, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. As a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor since 1990, her experience also includes providing both individual and group counseling in private practice, in addition to serving as a Counselor for Houston Community College for many years prior to returning. She has also taught various Psychology and Education courses as Adjunct faculty for over 16 years. Dr. Sit has a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education & Administration from UT-Austin and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston.
