Celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit

Meet the alumni:
LuzElena Rivers, Amera Solutions

Why did you apply to the program?
I was l looking for ways to learn how to expand my business and polish my entrepreneurial skills. I wanted to learn how to work on my business, not work in my business.

What growth have you experienced since graduating?
My company tripled in revenues and grew 150% after I graduated.

How has that growth impacted you and your business?
My company moved into a larger office in the Galleria and now operates outside of Texas. Our business is now in Kansas, Missouri and Florida. As for me, I learned new skills as a leader and educator.

How have you, as a leader, grown?
I realized the important role I play in the eyes of my employees. I know my words have power and my influence is strong.

How would you summarize your program exeperience?
It was an excellent journey. I learned skills that have sharpened my business practices and I now have a clear plan I can follow to ensure I reach every goal, as well as also meeting people through the journey who have shared their experiences and knowledge with me.

What advice would you give to the other small business owners preparing for growth?
Trust the process and follow the passion, not the money, this is the true meaning of success. Having a business comes with a lot of responsibility, however the rewards come after you lay your head on the pillow at night and know that you made the right decisions.

How are you supporting the local community?
Through my 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Rivers for Health Foundation, we provide health services, and other community services to the underprivileged. We partner with health care professionals and companies to assist in giving free medical screenings and help raise awareness on health issues. Additionally, we raise funds for medical services.
