Options for those that Missed the Fall 2021 Commencement Registration Deadline

Nov 22, 2021

Houston Community College realizes that commencement is one of the most important days in the lives of our students. Due to the COVID-19 status in Harris County at the beginning of the Fall semester, we planned a Fall Commencement Ceremony with limited capacity. This was the only way we could ensure the safety and health of our students, their families, our faculty and other guests.

Based on the limited capacity, registration for the Commencement Ceremony closed on November 19 at 11:59 pm. Unfortunately, at this time, only graduates who registered Commencement by November 19 will be able to participate in the ceremony.

Ideally, we would afford every student the opportunity to have a face-to-face ceremony to mark such an important and memorable milestone. However, commencement ceremonies involving over 3,000 approved graduates and their guests are a major production and require a venue, setup staff, staging and lighting arrangements, guest services and security personnel, and more. As such, planning begins at the start of each semester (August and January) and the ability to adjust plans are limited.

Although limited capacity and COVID-19 protocols were communicated during the Commencement registration process, we understand that not being able to attend the Commencement Ceremony is disappointing. All is not lost, however. Our Summer and Fall 2021 graduates will still have the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated.

  • Have Degrees Reflected on Transcript and Diplomas Mailed | Graduation means that if you complete all the academic program requirements, you will receive your diploma and have it reflected on your transcript. Commencement is the event to celebrate your accomplishment. Graduates who are unable to attend the Commencement Ceremony will still receive a diploma and have their degree/certificate reflected on transcripts once it’s confirmed that they have completed all the academic program requirements.

  • Walk in Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony | Students who missed the deadline for Fall Commencement ceremony will be able to walk across the stage during the Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony. Details will be provided about the ceremony next soon.

  • Participate in Official Fall 2021 Graduation Celebration Events | Students approved to graduate for Summer and Fall 2021 have awesome options to celebrate their achievement during the grad events. Please click here to view events.
