Wells Fargo Bank shows continued support for student success at HCC

During the September 17, 2015 meeting of the HCC Board of Trustees, Wells Fargo Bank presented the HCC Foundation a check for $20,000 to fund scholarships for the HCC Bank Teller Training Program and to establish endowments across the district.

Students in the Houston Community College Bank Teller Training Program and programs within the Centers of Excellence for Manufacturing and Digital and Information Technologies — are getting much-needed financial support from Wells Fargo Bank.

At the September meeting of the HCC Board of Trustees, Wells Fargo Area President Tom Debesse and District Manager Roxanna Smith presented the HCC Foundation with a $20,000 gift. This gift is the culmination of a six-year $120,000 commitment from Wells Fargo Bank. Half of the funds will help low-income students pursuing their Marketable Skills Award in Teller Training. The remainder has been used to establish endowments at each of the six colleges for the area of greatest need as determined by the Presidents. This year, to align more closely with HCC Transformation goals, an endowment was established for programs within the Centers of Excellence for Manufacturing and Digital and Information Technologies. These contributions benefit students at HCC in perpetuity, securing Well Fargo’s strong commitment to education for Houston’s future workforce.

“We are very proud to support the HCC Banking Finance and Teller program and give these scholarships. We are proud of the six years and $120,000 that we have given to HCC,” said Debesse.

The Teller Training program at HCC has twice received an “Exemplary” ranking from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, distinguishing it as an outstanding workforce program in the state. The program was designed to respond to our city’s immediate and serious shortage of qualified applicants for teller positions at area branches.

“Wells Fargo is a consistent supporter of our HCC students,” said Carme Williams, executive director, HCC Foundation. “This gift brings their total giving to the Foundation over $100,000, which impacts the educational experience of the student in our Bank Teller program as well as giving scholarship access to all HCC students seeking a higher education.”
