HCC is celebrating the success of three exceptional young students who represented the college on the national stage at the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee. 

Five outstanding faculty members at Houston City College have been selected by a committee of their peers to receive 2026 Houston City College Innovation Grants. 

Six HCC students have been named 2026 World Impact Scholars by Phi Theta Kappa, earning $2,500 scholarships in recognition of their academic achievement and commitment to community impact.

Four HCC VICEROY Scholars have been selected as poster competition finalists at the 2026 VICEROY Symposium, hosted by the College of William & Mary, April 14–16. As a woman of Mexican descent, Tanya Roche always felt drawn to the esteemed artist Frida Kahlo, known for her self-portraits of pain, passion and vibrant colors. Roche, a 47-year-old HCC Fashion Design student, originally from Queens, New York, used to buy clothing and dress like the famous artist in different phases of her life.

Upon arriving in Dallas to compete in the Pierre Cardin Young Designers Award (PCYDA) competition, Houston City College Fashion Design Student Matthew Simbajon was a nervous wreck.
