Two alumni of the HCC Veterans Entrepreneurship Program have been named among the top five finalists for the inaugural National Entrepreneur of the Year award from the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship.

When Aracely Salas graduated from Heights High School in 2023, she already knew her future would involve beauty and business. What she didn’t know was how quickly HCC could help put her on the path toward her dream of owning a salon.

HCC today unveiled a bold new logo and brand identity during its Fall Convocation, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for one of the nation’s largest community colleges. HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D., has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Western Regional Chief Executive Officer Award by the Association of Community College Trustees. 

HCC has announced that Dr. Lisa Alcorta has joined HCC as vice chancellor of student services, effective Aug. 18, 2025.

The HCC team is excited about a new development that affords HCC graduates and former students the opportunity to maintain existing and foster new connections.

When the doors for registration open, Dr. Laura Jakubowski’s HCC chemistry classes fill up in a hurry. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, HCC will hold an election to fill three (3) HCC Board of Trustees positions in geographic districts I, II and VII.

Houston City College plays a vital role in strengthening the regional and state economy by preparing a skilled workforce and increasing earning potential for its students. Graduates see significant long-term income gains, while the college’s operations, partnerships, and growing enrollment contribute to job creation, increased tax revenue, and overall economic growth across the Houston region.
