Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) help people of all ages develop, recover, or improve the skills needed for daily living and working. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, OTAs work with patients who are recovering from injury, illness, or disability to build strength, coordination, and independence through therapeutic activities. They may assist patients in learning how to perform everyday tasks such as dressing, cooking, or using adaptive equipment, helping individuals live more independently at home, school, or work.

The Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program at Houston City College prepares students for employment in a wide range of pharmacy settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and home health environments. Training focuses on the essential skills needed to support pharmacists in medication preparation, inventory management, and patient service.

The program is a structured, CAPTE accredited program that leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. The program prepares students to work as a licensed physical therapist assistant under the supervision of a physical therapist to help people recover functional movement, reduce pain, and improve their ability to perform daily activities. The program blends classroom instruction, hands on lab training, and real world clinical experience to ensure graduates are ready for safe and effective patient care. Graduates are prepared to work in fast-paced environments where versatility, professionalism, critical thinking, and strong patient interaction skills are essential.

The Public and Behavioral Health prepares students to support individuals, families, and communities through compassionate, skill-based service. Students gain practical training in communication, ethics, and case management, leading to careers in social services, community agencies, and related fields or continued education. This program is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and has been a member of the South Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center consortium (SSWATTC) funded by Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) since 1993.

Students in the two-year Radiography Program at Houston City College learn through classroom instruction and hands-on training in state-of-the-art labs at the Coleman Health Science Center. The program builds the technical, clinical, and patient-care skills needed for entry into the radiologic technology profession.

The two-year Respiratory Therapist (RSPT) program at Houston City College prepares students for entry-level careers in respiratory care. Respiratory Care Practitioners evaluate, treat, and manage patients of all ages with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders.

Students in the Sterile Processing program combine classroom learning with hands-on training in Coleman College’s state of the art labs. Through clinical rotations at partnering healthcare institutions, students also gain real-world practical experience that builds confidence and career-ready skills. Graduates are well prepared to pursue certification and step directly into rewarding roles as sterile processing technicians in today’s healthcare workforce.

Students in the six-semester Surgical Technology Program at Houston City College attend lectures and gain hands-on experience in the lab at Coleman College for Health Sciences. The program begins each fall and prepares students with the practical skills needed for surgical technology training.
