Houston City College receives $400,000 grant to strengthen teacher pipeline
The greater Houston area is the second-fastest growing metro in the nation, and with that growth comes rising demand for certified teachers across the region. To help meet that demand, the Houston Endowment recently awarded HCC a $400,000, two-year grant to strengthen its Education Professions Center of Excellence to address critical teacher shortages and expand equitable access to high-quality educator preparation.

Camera donation accelerates career-ready training in HCC’s Smart Building Technology program
HCC continues to elevate its Smart Building Technology program with the recent donation of three Pan Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) cameras from J-Tech Digital, Inc. Upcoming Event
HCC Southwest 5K run turns Valentine’s spirit into scholarships
The run begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the HCC Missouri City campus, 1600 Texas Parkway. Participants will proceed on a looping course through surrounding neighborhood streets before returning to campus. The event is open to runners or walkers.

At 45, Roshell Brisby decided her time had finally come. A single mother of four adult children, she had spent years putting her own education on hold while raising her family and working. In 2018, she earned her GED and immediately started an associate degree program at HCC, determined to build a new career path for herself.

HCC Central College professor wins grant to drive student success in chemistry
HCC Karen Fortune, Ph.D., obtained at $8,000 grant from the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities and the Gates Foundation to support faculty in designing courseware (called Real Chem) to improve student success and decrease DFWs in General Chemistry.
