Early College High School (ECHS)

Early College High Schools (ECHS) provide students with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college credit hours, with the potential to complete an associate degree while still in high school.

Beginning as early as 9th grade, ECHS students follow a structured academic pathway that integrates high school and college coursework. Through this college-focused experience, students may have opportunities to:

Participate in HCC campus events and activities
Engage with student clubs and organizations
Access HCC academic resources and student support services
Experience a college-going environment while completing high school
Make significant progress toward a college degree before high school graduation

ECHS programs may be located on or near an HCC campus or offered within a partner high school, depending on the partnership and program design.

How is ECHS different from traditional Dual Credit?

While both ECHS and traditional Dual Credit allow students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously, ECHS is a comprehensive, cohort-based program designed around a structured four-year college pathway. Students typically begin the program in 9th grade and progress through high school and college coursework with the goal of earning up to 60 college credit hours or an associate degree by high school graduation.
