Dual Credit Program

Houston City College’s (HCC) Dual Credit Program allows eligible high school students to earn college and high school credit at the same time.

Dual credit students enroll in college-level courses taught by qualified, credentialed faculty. These courses can fulfill high school graduation requirements while also earning credit toward a college degree or credential.

When you successfully complete an approved dual credit course:

  • Your high school or school district awards the applicable high school credit.
  • HCC awards college credit, which becomes part of your official HCC academic record.

HCC partners with participating school districts, charter schools, private schools, and other educational partners to offer dual credit courses in a variety of instructional formats. Eligible homeschool students may also participate in dual credit opportunities through HCC.

What are the benefits of Dual Credit?

Through Dual Credit, students can:

  • Earn college and high school credit simultaneously, making progress toward both high school graduation and a college degree or credential.
  • Reduce the cost of college by completing college coursework while still in high school.
  • Accelerate progress toward a degree or workforce credential, potentially reducing the time needed to complete a college program after high school.
  • Access HCC student resources and support services available to help students succeed in their college coursework.
  • Build college readiness and confidence by gaining experience with college-level expectations while still in high school.
  • Strengthen preparation for life after high school by beginning a college or career pathway early.
