Accessibility Guide: PDFs
PDF Documents uploaded to the website should be accessible to all users, including screen reader users.
Best Practices
- Use accessible PDFs whenever possible.
- Ensure PDFs include selectable text and are not image-only documents.
- Use clear headings, proper reading order and descriptive link text within PDFs.
- If a PDF cannot be made accessible, please provide the information directly on the webpage when possible.
- Any linked PDFs must use descriptive link text that clearly explains the content and format of the file. Links should not use vague text such as “Read more,” “Click here,” or “Form.” Instead, use descriptive labels such as “HCC Form (PDF)” so users know both what the document is and that it is a PDF.
