As Houston builds its reputation as a national life-sciences hub, Houston City College (HCC) Coleman College for Health Sciences is expanding programs in health sciences and digital health to build the next-generation workforce powering the region’s growth.
Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, Coleman College has long been recognized as the training ground for Houston’s frontline healthcare heroes. Students are learning the skills necessary for the next frontier of digital health innovation––connecting education directly to the industries driving Houston’s future.
“We’re not just preparing students for jobs; we’re preparing them for entirely new industries,” said Mohamad Tlass, Ed.D., vice president of Instruction and Student Services, HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences.
Recent expansions include:
- Medical Biotechnology Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC): A one-year, credit-bearing program focused on medical applications of biotechnology
- Online Biotechnology Courses: Introduction to Biotechnology and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in Biotechnology, which are flexible six-week programs designed for career exploration and professional upskilling
- Emerging Programs in Development: Biotechnology Laboratory Sciences, Biomanufacturing and Digital Health Technician
These offerings create a robust talent pipeline––from entry-level technicians to advanced professionals—meeting the needs of an industry with more than 300 open biotech jobs in Houston and 1,100+ life sciences companies across the region.
