Pretty. PreacHer. Hypocrite? is an installation that gives dimension to the many lives, dimensions, timelines, and alternate realities of visual artist, writer, and professor, Kamaria Shepherd. Shepherd explores these iterations of herself in her working novel titled, “Life of a So-Called Texas PreacHer” which is an experimental novel of personal narrative, oral family histories, poetry, and auto-fiction. The novel uses infinite iterations of "Kamarias" to spring from a fertility clinic in Los Angeles between experiences of moving home to Houston and “back home” to Grapeland, Texas. Shepherd's installation is a movement through self-portraiture as a visual and literary language through paintings and excerpts from her novel.
