    Students begin their journey through immersive career exploration experiences designed to introduce them to high-demand skilled trades careers. Through Career Test Drive events, hands-on demonstrations, employer showcases, industry tours, and career assessments, participants gain exposure to multiple career pathways including electrical, HVAC, welding, construction, industrial maintenance, automotive, logistics, and advanced manufacturing.

    Career exploration helps students identify personal interests, strengths, and aptitudes while learning about salaries, career growth opportunities, and earn-while-you-learn apprenticeship models. Participants engage directly with employers, instructors, and current apprentices to better understand career expectations and industry opportunities before entering training programs.

  2. TradeUp Foundations Pre-Apprenticeship

    Build the Foundation for Success.

    The TradeUp Foundations Pre-Apprenticeship program prepares students with the essential workplace, technical, and employability skills needed to transition successfully into technical training and registered apprenticeship opportunities. Students receive foundational instruction in workplace safety, OSHA standards, basic construction and technical skills, professionalism, communication, teamwork, digital literacy, and career readiness.

    Participants also receive support services including career coaching, navigation, mentorship, and connections to employer partners. The program is designed to reduce barriers to entry while creating a direct pipeline into high-demand apprenticeship and workforce training programs aligned to regional industry needs.

  3. Technical Training

    Gain Industry Skills & Credentials.

    Students advance into technical training programs delivered through Houston City College and employer-aligned workforce programs. Training focuses on hands-on instruction, industry-recognized certifications, technical competencies, and real-world application aligned to regional workforce demands.

    Programs may include electrical technology, HVAC, welding, industrial maintenance, diesel technology, automotive technology, logistics, instrumentation, and advanced manufacturing. Students gain practical experience in labs and simulated work environments while earning stackable credentials that position them for employment and apprenticeship advancement.

  4. Registered Apprenticeship

    Earn While You Learn.

    Participants transition into Registered Apprenticeship programs where they become full-time employees while continuing structured technical education. Apprentices receive paid on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced mentors while progressively advancing their technical competencies and wage levels.

    Registered Apprenticeship combines classroom instruction with real-world work experience and provides a proven pathway toward long-term career growth, industry certifications, and debt-free career advancement. Apprentices earn wages from day one while building valuable skills in high-demand industries critical to the Gulf Coast economy.
