Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA)

Based on Texas Success Initiative college readiness requirements, students either have to be placed into core courses one of two ways.

If you connected with an Enrollment Representative or Academic Advisor about your options and chose to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) to complete college readiness placement requirements, please read the next steps and information below. 

How to Take TSI Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2)

On-Campus Testing (By Appointment Only)

  1. Use Virtual Lobby to contact Enrollment or Advising to discuss testing requirements and other course placement options. 
  2. Receive your Electronic Assessment Authorization Form from Enrollment or Advising. 
  3. Complete the TSI mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity. PAA.  Provide a copy of the completion verification form to testing center. 
  4. Request an appointment for testing. 
  5. Make a payment. The full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR) costs $29 or $20 for ELAR only and $10 for Math or Essay only. 
  6. Select your test day and time. 

 

WebEx - Remote TSI Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2)

Remote proctoring with Webex is available for Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2). Testing is on a limited basis and by appointment only.

Examity - Remote TSI Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2)

Examity is a secure, 24-hour online test proctoring service that allows you to take your Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) when it is most convenient for you. 

STEPS TO SET AND PAY FOR REMOTE TESTING APPOINTMENT 

  1. View the technology requirements (below) to test remotely through Examity. 
  2. Use Virtual Lobby to contact Enrollment or Advising to complete testing authorization.  
  3. Receive your Electronic Assessment Authorization Form from Enrollment or Advising.
  4. Complete the TSI mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity. PAA.  Provide a copy of the completion verification form to testing center. 
  5. Request an appointment for testing.
  6. Pay HCC test fee that will appear your student account.
    •  The HCC testing fee for full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR) costs $29 or $20 for ELAR only and $10 for Math or Essay only. 
    • You will make your payment online by logging into your student account.
  7. Receive the testing voucher and a confirmation email from Accuplacer with the instructions you will need for testing.
  8. Click the Examity link in the email which will bring you to the Examity registration page. Enter your first name, last name, email and hit register. You will be prompted to pay $25.00 plus tax for Examity upon scheduling a test. The per-session Examity proctor fee is $25.00 plus tax.
  9. Once you’ve registered and paid, you will receive a confirmation email with login credentials from Examity. You will then log into the Examity dashboard. From here, you will set up a profile and schedule your exam using the voucher code provided.

What to Expect + Scores + Retaking Information

How much time do I get to take the TSIA2? 

The TSI Assessment 2.0 is untimed. The average time to complete all three sections is three to five hours.

What do I need to bring with me to the test?

Valid/current, non-expired government issued photo ID.
Assessment Authorization Form (AA Form) received from Enrollment or Advising.
Receipt of payment

Am I allowed to bring a calculator to the test? 

You may NOT use your own calculator for the TSIA. A calculator is embedded in the test and will enable for the questions it is allowed to be used on.  

What are the passing scores?

TSIA

  • Writing College Readiness
    • A placement score of at least 340 and an essay score of at least 4; OR
    • A placement score of less than 340 and an ABE diagnostic level of at least a 4 and an essay score of at least 5.
  • Reading College Readiness: 351
  • Math College Readiness: 350

TSIA2

  • English Language Arts and Reading: 
    • A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score of at least 945 and an essay score of at least 5; or 
    • A CRC score below 945 and a Diagnostic level of 5 or 6 and an essay score of at least 5.
  • Mathematics (for college-level coursework with mathematics-intensive designation by the offering institution):
    • A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score of at least 950; or
    • A CRC score below 950 and a Diagnostic level of 6. 

 

Can I retake the TSIA2?   

Yes, you may retake the TSI Assessment 2.0.  However, before retesting, it is strongly recommended that you spend time preparing for the section or sections needed. The full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR) costs $29 or $20 for ELAR only and $10 for Math or Essay only. Prepayment is required and test fees are non-refundable. You will not be able to retest the same day. 

How long does it take to get scores? 

The TSI Assessment 2.0 is scored immediately upon completion. You will receive an unofficial copy of scores via email.

What do I do after I complete my test?  

You will meet with your advisor to review your scores and determine your course selections. 

 

TSI Assessment Score Retrieval Request

This form is for students who have taken the TSIA or TSIA2 at another Texas Institution and would like to grant permission to access those scores for enrollment at Houston Community College. Cross-Institutional Reports are processed within 2-3 business days. Please select the college or campus you will be attending and complete the Score Retrieval Form.
