Public Safety Telecommunicator - 911 Dispatcher
The Public Safety Telecommunicator – 911 Dispatcher program prepares students for careers in emergency communications and public safety support services. Students receive academic instruction and hands-on training in radio operations, emergency call-taking, dispatch procedures, incident documentation, and communication skills for Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS agencies. Approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), the program prepares students for the Basic Telecommunicator Licensing Exam and entry-level employment in emergency dispatching and public safety communications.

Public Safety Telecommunicator - 911 Dispatcher, O.S.A.
This program offers academic instructional and hands-on skills training covering all three-curriculum topics in Public Safety (Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS). Students will learn to demonstrate radio operations, identify legal issues regarding telecommunications, process radio logs and documentation, and prioritize emergency calls for management. The Tele-communicator curriculum approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) prepares students for the Basic Tele-communicator licensing exam.
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) establishes eligibility. HCC requires documentation a cadet that is competent at college-level reading and writing prior to admission. An academic advisor will examine your transcript to determine if you meet the academic prerequisite.
The general requirements are listed below:
- High School Diploma or GED
- College Ready Reading and Writing
- 18 Years of Age Before Graduation from the Academy
- Generally, No Prior Convictions, Community Supervision or Deferred Adjudication
- Fingerprint Submission
- Examination by a Physician; Including a Drug Screen
- Examination by a Psychologist
- Honorable Discharge if Prior Military Service
- United States Citizen
- Social Security Card
Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card Fingerprinting including criminal background check.
