Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomy Technician program prepares students to safely collect blood specimens from adults, children, and infants using proper procedures and standard precautions. Students learn patient identification, infection control, specimen handling, medical terminology, and basic anatomy and physiology related to blood analysis. The program also prepares graduates to take a national certification exam and pursue entry-level employment in healthcare settings.

The Phlebotomy Technician is trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods on adults, children, and infants according to the guidelines established by the Clinical Laboratory Standards using proper techniques and standard precautions. Emphasis is on patient identification, infection control and specimen handling. Topics include professionalism, ethics, medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology relating to blood analysis. The Phlebotomy Technician program is designed to prepare students to take a national certification exam.

These courses provide skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods on adults, children, and infants using proper techniques and standard precautions. Emphasis is on patient identification, infection control and specimen handling. Topics include professionalism, ethics, medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology relating to blood analysis.
