Basic Firefighter

The Basic Firefighter program area prepares students to meet the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) minimum standards for employment as a firefighter in the State of Texas. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to pursue certification and entry-level positions in the fire service, with coursework that may also apply toward an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Fire Science/Firefighting.

The Basic Firefighting academy consists of 672 hours of instruction and skills, is approved by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Curriculum topics include fire ground operations, hazardous materials, and physical fitness.
