As per State Bill 37, at least once every five years, the Houston City College Board of Trustees must conduct a comprehensive review of the institution’s general education curriculum. The Board of Trustees may appoint an advisory committee to assist in carrying out these duties, including by making recommendations to the board. On October 1, 2025, the HCC Board of Trustees approved the creation of a committee comprised of the existing HCC Core Curriculum Council and “any other person(s) trustees may decide to appoint” to facilitate review of the HCC core (e.g., general education) curriculum. On February 18, 2026, the HCC Board of Trustees appointed eight community representatives to serve on the committee. The work on the General Education Curriculum review began in April 2026 with a goal of completing its review by fall 2026.
