Remmele J. Young is a native South Carolinian and for the past 24 years a proud resident of Houston, Texas. He has a passion for education, recognizing its utility in elevating the lives of others and the community at large, suggesting that “education is a passport to the future and an investment that pays the best interest.”

Remmele presently serves as Vice Chancellor of Public Information, Communications & External Affairs at Houston Community College (HCC). In this position, he oversees and is responsible for all media relations, public information, and external affairs, including government relations, for the institution.

Before joining HCC, Remmele provided policy counsel to senior executives at Reliant Energy, a Fortune 500 company, and Verizon, one of America’s leading publicly traded companies. During his work history, he also served as a consultant at Arthur Andersen, LLP, a professional services firm. 

Remmele is a former liaison at congressional hearings for the United States Department of Energy’s Office of the General Counsel, and a former county commissioner in the state of South Carolina, serving eight years in that elective office. He has extensive public policy experience that has proven successful in his work at HCC for the past 17 years. His successes at HCC include but are not limited to helping pass legislation that enables community colleges to offer baccalaureate degrees, securing state appropriations for the institution’s resiliency efforts at both the state and federal levels, and other initiatives important to student success.

Remmele received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of South Carolina and the District of Columbia School of Law, respectively.  He also attended Howard University and successfully completed Harvard University’s Institutes of Higher Education Management Development Program.

Remmele is married; he has one son and two loving grandchildren.
