Associate of Arts in Music - Field of Study Curriculum

The Music program at HCC offers an AA in Music degree in addition to supporting the core curriculum and encouraging the general study of music for all HCC students. Courses that fulfill the Creative Arts Core requirement include MUSI 1306 Music Appreciation, MUSI 1307 Music Literature, and MUSI 1310 American Music. These courses are available in face to face and distance education sections. Other classes are offered in applied music (Guitar, Piano, and Voice), ensembles (Instrumental and Vocal) and limited private instruction (permission numbers are required, and majors receive priority registration). The curriculum aligns with the state Field of Study in Music and is transferrable to public institutions in Texas. Graduates from the HCC music program transfer to many institutions both in and out of the state of Texas, and work professionally in the field. Professional musicians and teaching artists serve on the faculty and specialize in classical, jazz, and new music.

Associate of Arts in Studio Art / Hybrid Option

The ARTS Program strongly recommends that a student complete this degree before transferring to a 4-year college or university studio art program. Some specialty visual arts colleges such as Kansas City Art Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, etc., might require freshman or sophomore coursework specific to specialized programs at their schools. This associates degree is intended for studio art majors. Students interested in an in Art History major will require additional art history and language courses. Students interested in an arts education major will require a color theory class.

Associate of Arts in Teaching / Online Option

The Associate of Arts in Teaching is a state-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification

Associate of Arts in World Languages / Online Option

The Associate of Arts in World Languages is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in a World Language. This plan has two specializations, Spanish and French.

Associate of Science in Biology - Biology Majors & Premedical Programs - Field of Study Curriculum

(Biology Majors and Pre-Medical Programs)

Associate of Science in Biology - Health Sciences Professions - Field of Study Curriculum / Hybrid Option

The Associate of Science in Biology is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas: computer science, engineering, health and natural sciences, or mathematics. (Pre-Nursing, Pre-Radiologic Sciences, Pre-Clinical Laboratory Services)

Associate of Science in Chemistry / Hybrid Option

The Associate of Science in Chemistry is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas: computer science, engineering, health and natural sciences, or mathematics.

Associate of Science in Computer Science - Field of Study Curriculum / Online Option

The Associate of Science is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas: computer science, engineering, health and natural sciences, or mathematics.

Associate of Science in Criminal Justice - Field of Study Curriculum / Online Option

The Criminal Justice program consists of the AA transfer plan for Criminal Justice, the AAS in Criminal Justice with concentrations in law enforcement, corrections, or juvenile justice, and the following certificate: Basic Peace Officer Licensing. Texas requires a four-year degree to qualify as a probation officer or protective service worker. Students must be 21 or older to enter the police academy.

Associate of Science in Engineering Science / Hybrid Option

The Associate of Science in Engineering Science (ASES) is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to The University of Texas at Tyler's, (Houston Engineering Center), located at the HCC-Alief Hayes Road Campus, to complete a baccalaureate degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering. Students wishing to transfer to other engineering schools may wish to speak about the transferability of this degree's coursework with an HCC advisor or an advisor at the receiving university.
