Vice President of the Trauma Service Line and System Integration | Memorial Hermann Healthcare

 

Thomas "Tom" Flanagan, R.N., B.S.N., M.A., L.P., is the Vice President of the Trauma Service Line and System Integration for Memorial Hermann Health System. Tom is based at Memorial Hermann- Memorial City corporate headquarters, as well as Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, which is renowned for providing leading-edge care in trauma, heart, neuroscience, orthopedics, women’s health, general surgery and organ transplantation services. Memorial Hermann’s Red Duke Trauma Institute provides 24/7 emergency and trauma care in addition to serving as the primary teaching hospital for UTHealth Medical School.

Mr. Flanagan continues to adapt to operating a service line model of care, while executing executive responsibility for emergency services, trauma services and Life Flight® for the 17-hospital Memorial Hermann Health System. With almost four decades of both clinical and administrative healthcare experience, Flanagan is widely recognized for his proficiency in crisis management and disaster preparedness. He began his career as a respiratory therapist before becoming an emergency room nurse and then a Life Flight nurse, where he would eventually rise through the ranks to run the entire program.

Mr. Flanagan has been named "National Program Director of the Year" by American Eurocopter and the Association of Air Medical Services and "Emergency Nurse of the Year" by the Greater Houston EMS Council. He received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing and was honored by HealthWeek with a Nursing Excellence Award for Nursing and Administration. Flanagan was the recipient of the Memorial Hermann Dan S. Wilford Spirit Award, an honor given to one employee whose personal values and attributes most closely reflect those of former president and chief executive officer of Memorial Hermann.

Mr. Flanagan serves as a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council and as a board member for LifeGift. He has also served in several healthcare and community board capacities including the Harris County Department of Education’s Center for Safe and Secure Schools, the EMS Departments at both Houston Community College and San Jacinto Community College.

Mr. Flanagan received a bachelor's in nursing from UTHealth School of Nursing and a master's in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.
