Arturo Sanchez III

Director, External Relations | NASA Johnson Space Center

 

Arturo Sanchez is the director of the External Relations Office at NASA Johnson Space Center. He is responsible for leading, integrating and amplifying the work of a team of civil servants and contractors in the areas of employee communications, digital media, public affairs, public engagement, STEM engagement, legislative affairs, exhibits and university collaboration. Arturo has 20-years of experience working in the federal government and private sector as a strategic partner with public education, universities, nonprofit boards, and legislative stakeholders.

Arturo served as deputy director for JSC’s External Relations Office from March 2018 through June 2020. Sanchez was the Integration Manager to the International Space Station Program from April 2014 through March 2018 and chaired an interdisciplinary team of more than 45 communicators, scientists, and engineers from across the agency to advance strategic communications for the Program. Arturo returned to Johnson in May 2012, after working at Texas Instruments’ headquarters where he was responsible for corporate K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs and investments.

Arturo started his career at Johnson as a graduate Pathways student in May 2000, and returned after graduation, working in various offices including education, equal opportunity programs, community and government relations, and communications and outreach.

Arturo serves on the Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees, first elected in May 2017, and re-elected for a second term in November 2020. He is currently the board vice president. Sanchez is a member of the University of Houston Clear Lake College of Education Dean’s Advisory Board, and Ex-Officio member with Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership and Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Arturo completed his bachelors in business administration from Texas A&M International University and completed a master of public service and administration from the George Bush School of Government and Public Service, at Texas A&M University. Arturo is a fifth-year graduate student pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Education at Oklahoma State University.

Arturo and his wife Jayme have two children, Arturo IV and Danielle, a ninth grader and sixth grader.
