New SEVP Rule For International Students Rescinded

Jul 15, 2020

Dear HCC Family,

On July 8, 2020, I shared with you Houston Community College’s (HCC) commitment to support international students’ compliance with the new rules for non-immigrant students in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), as announced on July 6 by the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  I am pleased to announce that yesterday, July 14, ICE agreed to rescind this new rule.  This action extends the interim COVID guidance of the SEVP for the Spring and Summer 2020.  This is great news as it allows international students to continue their work in the same modality as the COVID affected Spring and Summer 2020 semesters.

HCC awaits formal notice of the return to the temporary exemptions for the SEVP, which were instituted in March 2020.  As soon as we receive official guidance, staff from HCC’s International Services & Programs (ISP) office will contact our international students to help ensure that their courses for the Fall 2020 are compliant with any and all requirements.

Sincerely,

Cesar Maldonado, Ph.D., P.E.
Chancellor
