Maxine Lane-Seals began her service on the North Forest ISD board of education in 1980 and served through 1986. After one year, her fellow members elected her President for two consecutive terms. She returned to office in 1994 and continued to serve for a total of 20 years.
Maxine Lane-Seals served as a member of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board where she was President for two terms and received the Lifetime Achievement Award. After her first year, she was appointed by the renowned late Joe Kelly Butler to serve on the curriculum committee of the State Board of Education. She also became the first Master Trustee from North Forest for the Texas Association of School Boards.
Maxine Lane-Seals served numerously as a delegate and as an alternate to the State Convention for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) / Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). For the Gulf Coast School Board Association, she served as Director two terms and was Director for the National Association of School Boards.
Maxine Lane-Seals was the only member of the North Forest Board to serve as a delegate to the National Convention. She was a mentor to many board members throughout the district, city, and state. She has conducted candidate board training, served on selection committees for TASB Leadership, and conducted board workshops.
Maxine Lane-Seals is a retired manager from the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (SBC). Before becoming a manager at SBC, Lane-Seals was a CWA District Steward representing the Houston, Galveston, and Beaumont area clerical groups. She was the first black to hold the position.
For the past 15 years, Maxine Lane-Seals has been a part-time Team Leader and presently a part-time Reservation Group Sales Agent for Continental Airlines (contemplating her 2nd retirement). Lane-Seals received an honorary membership from the Order of the Eastern Star, Starlight Grand Chapter; Extended PTA Life Membership; NAACP Life Member; Board of Director, LBJ Hospital Council; former Board Officer, Settegast Health Clinic Council; Northeast YMCA Board of Directors; Fontaine Scenic Woods Civic Club, and numerous other organizations.
Maxine Lane-Seals is a graduate of the 5th Ward Wheatley High School, where she met and married the love of her life, the late Frank Seals. They were married for 56 years. Lane-Seals attended Texas Southern University (TSU) and Houston Community College. She is blessed with two sons, former TSU Police Chief Thaddeus Seals, and the love of her life, the late "Cedric Seals." Lane-Seals has five grandsons; Thaddeus, Carlton, Jamontrell, Cedric II, and Cameron; and one granddaughter, Paige.
Maxine Lane-Seals past time is spent with her family and traveling the country. She has visited numerous places; Iceland, France, London, Germany, Prague, Budapest, Austria, Greece, Costa Rico, Canada, and most of the United States. Lane-Seals is a member of the Fifth Ward Church of Christ.
