Adjunct Academy FAQs

How does the COVID-19 pandemic affect Adjunct Academy 2021-22?

Modality Shift: For the health and safety of participants and facilitators, all four Fall 2021 workshops will be held online ONLY (Spring 2022 workshop modalities are to be determined). 2021-22 cohort-capacity is also limited to 12-18—Apply Now!

Adjunct Academy curriculum targets both online and face-to-face modalities.

Mirrored Pedagogy: In every workshop, Adjunct Academy facilitators demonstrate the instructional techniques of the pedagogical content explored. The 2021-22 program cycle offers a unique opportunity for participants to have a front-row seat to the student experience of best practices in the online synchronous modality.

When is the deadline to submit an application?

The 2020-21 deadline is Fri., Oct. 1 at 5:00 p.m. However, interested applicants are encouraged to apply early to ensure first choice of cohort meeting day: Thursday evenings, Friday mornings, or Saturday mornings.

Will you accept applications past the deadline?

It depends if the spots have filled or if one opens up.

Who can apply?

Houston Community College part-time instructors of any discipline may apply—we welcome all disciplines from STEM to the arts to workforce to developmental to continuing education.

How many applicants are accepted into each cohort?

2021-22 Adjunct Academy cohorts are accepting 12-18 participants each.

How many cohorts are there/ Where will the Adjunct Academy be offered?

Cohorts are created based upon applicant submission. The Adjunct Academy aims to develop four or more cohorts of 12-18 participants each for the 2021-22 year.

For participant and facilitator health and safety, all four Fall 2021 workshops are offered online ONLY. Spring 2022 locations and/or modality for Workshops 5-8 are TBA.

Typically, onsite campuses include Central, Spring Branch, and West Loop.

My time is very limited. What kind of commitment does the Adjunct Academy require?

32 hours of intensive and individualized professional development.

The Adjunct Academy spans the full academic year. There are eight workshops; four in the fall and four in the spring semesters.

Each Fall 2021 workshop consists of at least four hours of activity:

  • Two hours of synchronous work on the cohort meeting date and time
  • Two hours of asynchronous activities and facilitator-guided goal-setting sessions.

Workshop cohorts are available Thursday evenings (6-8PM), Friday mornings (9-11AM), and Saturday mornings (9-11AM).

What if I can only come late or leave early due to other commitments?

Please include any time restrictions in your application in the “Statement of Interest” section. These are decided on a case-by-case basis.

What if I can’t attend one of the workshops due to a conflict?

In the case of a conflict, participants may visit another cohort/workshop date. There will also be synchronous workshop component make-up opportunities. Participants must attend all eight workshops in order to be eligible for graduation, the Completion Certificate, and stipend.
