Student Records (FERPA)
Through the Registrar, HCC maintains a comprehensive system of student records and complies with the Family Educational Rights and Policy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. §1232g. Records of present or former students of the system are confidential and are not public information. Education records are released only upon receipt of written consent of the eligible student or parent, as applicable, or to the extent permitted by law. The System releases “directory information” without prior written consent. The System defines “directory information” to include a student's name, address, telephone, date of birth, degrees earned and dates, major field of study, dates of attendance, number of semester hours completed and in progress, enrollment status, student classification, name of most recent institution attended. Students who do not want directory information released are responsible for notifying the Office of Student
Records (3100 Main, Houston, TX 77002) in writing within the
first 12 days of the fall or spring semester or the first four days
of the summer term.
