Will the Federal Pell Grant Program change affect you?

Duration of Eligibility

Beginning in the 2012-2013 aid year, a change to the law affecting the Federal Pell Grant program will go into effect.  If a student has received a Pell Grant for 12 semesters (typically 6 years or 600%) as a full-time student (or the equivalent), he/she has reached their lifetime eligibility for Pell and is no longer eligible to receive future disbursements of this grant.

The Department of Education has recently sent notification to the students this new law will affect.  This impacts Pell Grant eligibility only and does not impede financial aid awarding for other types of aid such as Federal Stafford Loans or other types of grants the student may qualify for.

Beginning  Mid-July, students will be able to view the total amount of Pell disbursements received at all schools they attended on the National Student Loan Database.  More details
