Dozens of players participated in the Houston Community College Minority Male Initiative Fall Golf Classic held Monday, October 8, 2012 at Quail Valley Golf Course, 2880 La Quinta Dr., in Missouri City. Registration began at 7:30 a.m., and the shotgun start kicked off at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the 2012 tournament benefit HCC’s Minority Male Initiative (MMI) Summer STEM Academy which helps provide real life, practical, hands-on learning experiences for minority males in grades 7-12. The idea is to develop a sound foundation of learning activities that enable young minority males to complete high school and pursue a college degree.

Minority Male Initiative
In its first year, Houston Community College\'s Minority Male Initiative (MMI) Summer STEM Academy provided real life, practical, hands-on learning experiences for minority males in grades 7th - 12th with many students earning up to five semester hours of college credit and scholarships. More than 300 participants gained first-hand knowledge in:
• Science
• Technology
• Engineering
• Mathematics
• Digital Gaming
• Digital Communication
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Project GRAD Houston, Houston ISD, and North Forest ISD served as partners.
The overriding goal of the Summer STEM Academy is to develop a sound foundation for young males to engage in learning activities that will enable them to complete high school and pursue a college degree.
With your support, HCC will continue to provide these young men mentorship, tutoring and educational opportunities throughout middle school, high school and until completion of college.
