Commercial Truck Driving
The truck driving program is designed to prepare students for an entry-level truck driving position. The program consists of two courses taken as a block. The courses cover: rules, regulations, hours of service, and practical hands-on training.

Licensure/Certification:
HCC Certificate of Completion and Professional Truck Driving Industry (PTDI)
Student must complete Six Week day program.
- The six week program meets Monday thru Friday - 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
- Program starts every two weeks.
HCC Certificate of Completion:
- Student must complete Twelve Week day program.
- The twelve week day program meets Thursday 6:00 pm to 10:30 thru and
Saturday and Sunday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
- Program starts every twelve weeks.
- Bilingual Six week program is also available.
Prerequisites:
Applicant must meet all requirements of the Department of Transportation
(DOT) and Houston Community College including:
- Be at least 18-years-old for instate; 21-years-old for over the road.
- Pass a DOT physical.
- Pass DOT drug test.
- Have a good driving record.
- Have a valid class C driver's license.
Registration:
Registration must be in person and it takes place at the Roland Smith Commercial
Truck Driving facility. It is recommended that interested students register early
in order to guarantee a place in the class. Registration must be completed,
including paid tuition, at least one week prior to the beginning date of the class.
Payment:
Payment of tuition must be paid made by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa.Texas
Public Educational Grant (TPEG) funds will be available for qualified students. Funds
are awarded to eligible applicants on the first come first serve basis while funds are

Equipment:
The vehicles used in training are comparable to those used in the trucking industry
and include: conventional tractor, ten speed transmissions, set back axles, tandem.
Trailers include 45ft, 48ft, 53ft. dry vans, and flat beds; and tankers. Students train
on both loaded and empty trailers provided a real world-training environment.

Driver Education Programs
Teen Driver Education
With all of our driver education materials, teens will learn all about the basics of driving, which includes the laws of the road, how to deal with different driving conditions, how to react in emergencies, why they should never use a text-messaging device while behind the wheel or drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Adult Driver Education
The driver education course exclusive for adults includes information on alcohol and drug awareness; the traffic laws of this state; highway signs, signals, and markings that regulate, warn, or direct traffic; and issues commonly associated with motor vehicle accidents, including poor decision-making, risk taking, impaired driving, distraction, speed, failure to use a safety belt, driving at night, failure to yield the right-of-way, and using a wireless communication device while operating a vehicle. Students will also take the written test for the permit, Vision test and assistance with filling out forms and application.

Freight Broker Training
Classes are offered in partnership with Houston Community College & Excelsior Enterprise International Inc. Learn how to start and successfully operate your own freight brokerage in just one day. Participants will learn how to start their own business or find a job as an agent.
