For Students

Why be an NSF Scholar?

  • You will be among a group of students recognized for excellence in academic coursework and for ambition to pursue a bachelor’s degree or a challenging career.
  • You will receive a scholarship that will pay for your education for two years.
  • You have the opportunity to participate in a series of excellence workshops in computer science, mathematics, and engineering designed to reinforce the education you receive in the classroom.
  • You may have internship opportunities with local companies related to your chosen major

What is expected of NSF Scholars?

  • You must have every intention of graduating from the Houston Community College in two years with an Associate of Science or Associate in Applied Science in computer science, mathematics, or engineering. Students with declared majors outside of these fields will be disqualified.
  • You must attend workshop sessions and the NSF Scholars dinner and participate actively.
  • You must remain a full-time student.
  • You must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and maintain your status as an NSF CSEMS Scholar
  • You must plan to transfer to a four-year college or university after you complete your two-year degree program at Houston Community College.
