HCCS HOME | NORTHEAST | INTENSIVE ENGLISH Intensive English What is Intensive English? Purpose: The Intensive English Program of the Northeast College of the Houston Community College System offers non-native speakers a 20-hour-a-week course of study in English to prepare for work on a college degree or for greater opportunities in personal, career, and community activities. Program Design: New students are tested in order to place them in one of four levels. In each level, students improve their English language skills in four areas: conversation, grammar, reading, and writing. Professional language instructors teach in the classroom and in the computer laboratory. The Fall Semester begins in August and the Spring Semester begins in January. Each semester lasts 16 weeks. Students attend classes Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. On Fridays, students may come to the lab for extra practice.   The Summer Semester begins in June and lasts 10 weeks. Students attend classes from Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.   A semi-intensive course of study is offered in the evening. It takes two semesters to complete one level. During the 16-week Fall and Spring Semesters, students attend classes Monday through Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. During the 10-week Summer Semester, students attend classes Monday through Thursday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.   Tuition: Tuition fees for the intensive and semi-intensive programs are as follows: 320-hour Daytime Course 160-hour Evening Course In-district: $840.00 $420.00 Out-of-district: $1,488.00 $744.00 Out-of-state: $1,728.00 $864.00   Location: Levels I, II, III and IV are at the Northline Mall Center (401 Northline Mall). Levels I and II are at the Pinemont Center (1265 Pinemont Center) and Codwell Hall at the Northeast Campus (555 Community College Drive).   Financial Aid: Financial Aid is available, for those who qualify.
