Veterans: How to Apply for Admissions

HOW TO APPLY TO
HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Step One: Submit HCC Admission Application: http://www.hccs.edu/application
Please indicate on the application "Military Status" if you are Non-Military i.e., spouse or dependent please indicate this under the word "Military Status" or Texas Veteran, Active Duty, Inactive Reserve etc.
Step Two: Go to Veteran Forms http://www.hccs.edu/hccs/future-students/veterans/hcc-district-office-veterans-affairs-forms complete one of the forms listed or complete the Online Form listed under "Forms".
Step Three: Obtain Official Transcripts from your University or College in a sealed envelope.
Step Four: Meet with an HCC Academic Counselor at any HCC campus.
Step Five: TSI- Texas Success Initiatives:
Military-Students who are determined to be exempt from State testing requirements will still need to meet institutional developmental pre-requisites if required by taking our placement test.
The TSI requires the assessment of new students; individualized success plans for those students whose skills are not at college level, and minimum state standards to determine “college readiness” in reading, writing and math.
Testing is mandatory and must be completed prior to enrollment.If you have not attended college before, you must take a placement test. This test is designed to determine if you are ready for college-level courses by assessing your skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Approved Assessment Tests for TSI purposes:
* COMPASS
* ASSET
* THEA (formally TASP)
Step Six: After meeting with an Academic Counselor and obtaining a degree plan follow step number seven.
Step Seven: Visit VA Department at 3100 Main Houston Texas 77002:11th floor. Please bring your DD214, Military transcripts, Official Transcripts (sealed envelope), and degree plan signed off on by a HCC Counselor.
Step eight: If you change your degree plan please meet with an Academic Counselor and receive a new degree plan and complete a change of degree plan form: http://www.hccs.edu/hccs/future-students/veterans/hcc-district-office-veterans-affairs-forms
Fax over your new degree plan with the change of degree plan form to VA Office 713-718-8444 with a cover letter.
Step Nine: Meet with an Academic Counselor to update your degree plan at least one time per year.
Step Ten: Please file for graduation through your HCC Academic Counselor prior to your last semester.
Training Time:
- 12 credit hours= full time status (Regular Term & Second Start)
- 9-11 credit hours=3/4 status (Regular Term & Second Start)
- 6-8 credit hours=1/2 time status (Regular Term & Second Start)
- 4-5 credit hours=less than 1/2 time status (Regular Term & Second Start)
- 1-3 credit hours=1/4 time or less status (Regular Term & Second Start)
Summer training time:
- 8 credit hours=full time status during the 10 week summer session
- 4 credit hours=full time status during the Summer 1 session or S1
- 4 credit hours=full time status during the Summer 2 session. or S2
