Adult Education Program ABE/GED/ESL Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are eligible for the Adult Education and Literacy Programs, if individuals are 18* years or older and have a general goal:
- To obtain a high school credential (GED)
- To improve basic skills
- To learn English or improve fluency
Applicants must present a picture ID and a social Security card (if available) to enroll in class.
*Age exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. All exceptions must be cleared through the Adult Education Program administrative office, 3100 Main, BAO9. Contact telephone 713-718-5400.
Course Descriptions and Costs
English as a Second Language (ESL)
For adults with limited English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Beginning intermediate, and advanced level classes are offered free of charge.
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Develops reading, writing, mathematics and decision-making skills for application in real life. ABE classes are free of charge.
GED Preparation (GED)
Helps adults prepare for the five(5) General Educational Development (GED) tests (a high school equivalence examination).
Skills taught: Social Studies, Math, Science, Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing.
Students enrolled in the GED classes may be required to pay $25.00 fee per semester.
