AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a national service initiative signed into law by President Clinton. It is a movement that will engage thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic PeaceCorps to get things done throughout our nation's urban and rural communities. In exchange for one or two years of results-driven service, Americans will receive education awards to help finance their college education or vocational training, or to pay back their student loans.

AmeriCorps recipients wanting to use their education award to attend classes at Houston Community College must meet the following requirements:

  • At least six weeks prior to early registration each semester, arrange an appointment to meet with Boni Cole to complete the Voucher and Payment Request Form.
    Bring original Voucher and Payment Request Form, Degree Plan sign by counselor, Social Security Card, and some type of picture I.D, with you to the appointment, without these things your paperwork can not and will not be processed.
  • The form will be completed during the appointment and mailed to AmeriCorps by the end of that business day.
  • After AmeriCorps receives the completed voucher from Houston Community College, AmeriCorps will then send a check to Houston Community College in the amount you requested.
  • After Houston Community College receives the check from AmeriCorps, the funds will be posted into your account. (NOTE - *Funds will not be posted to your account until Houston Community College receives money from AmeriCorps AND * All funds are posted in the order they are received from AmeriCorps.)
  • When the funds are posted to your account, you will be able to access them to pay for your tuition and fees.
  • Once your tuition and fees are paid, you will be able to use the remaining funds to purchase books.
  • After the first official date of record, Boni Cole will began requesting disbursement of the credit balance for living expenses.
  • If you have a credit balance after your tuition and fees have been paid, it will be applied to your Chase Bank VISA E-Funds Debit card. (Make certain you have updated your mailing address with Admission Office).
  • Semester deadlines for filing for AmeriCorps Vouchers are as follows:


Fall Semester: April 15th
Spring Semester: September 15th
Summer Semester: February 15th

(Note: Failure to meet the deadline dates will delay the availability of funds to cover tuition and fee payments during registration).
