iTunes
HCC launched its own iTunes University (iTunes U) website over a year ago.
It is located at http://itunes.hccs.edu
To date there are some members posting lectures, but IMC would like to enhance the iTunes U site by getting many more faculty to post short, topical podcasts that may be shared across disciplines for students. To do this IMC has created two training courses: Podcasting on a Mac and Podcasting on a PC. These courses are taught face to face and are on the Certificate in Technology schedule, which is posted at http://www.hccs.edu/cit
Frequently Asked Questions about iTunes U:
What is iTunes U?
iTunes U, part of the iTunes Store, is a great collection of free educational media available to students, teachers, and lifelong learners with over 200,000 educational audio and video files available. HCC has its own public site at http://itunes.hccs.edu .
What is a podcast?
Podcasting is the act of distributing audio and/or video files via the Internet by means of subscription. Subscribing to a podcast is achieved through the use of an RSS feed, which is simply an XML file the user clicks on. From then on, just as with a magazine subscription, the user will receive each new file posted to the podcast site. All the user has to do is open the software and the download takes place automatically.
Do I have to have an iPod to hear or see the podcasts?
No, audio and video files distributed through iTunes U podcasts can be played on iPods or other portable media players capable of playing Internet-standard AAC MP4 and MP3 audio files and Internet-standard H.264 MPEG-4 video files. They can also be played in iTunes software on PCs running Windows or Macintosh computers. PDFs are only viewable in iTunes.
